Codex Integrations & Connections
Codex can connect to external systems through plugins, Apps/connectors, and MCP servers.
Three Connection Methods
- Plugins package skills and tools.
- Apps / connectors connect Codex to products such as design, issue, or communication tools.
- MCP servers expose external resources and tools through the Model Context Protocol.
Plugin Marketplace
The plugin marketplace distributes reusable workflows such as product design, browser control, spreadsheets, documents, or deployment helpers.
Manage Plugins With The CLI
Some installations support CLI-based plugin management. Keep plugin versions pinned when reproducibility matters.
Apps / Connectors
Connectors can bring in external context such as Figma files, Linear issues, Slack messages, GitHub items, or other product data.
MCP Servers
MCP is useful when Codex needs structured access to internal systems, databases, documentation, or custom tools.
Working With Skills
Skills can tell Codex when and how to use a plugin or MCP server, including what references to load and what workflow to follow.
Common Scenarios
- Pull a design reference from Figma.
- Read issue context from Linear or GitHub.
- Query internal documentation through MCP.
- Share a prototype through a deployment plugin.
